At St John’s we believe in nurturing the potential of every boy, helping them to grow in confidence, develop a love of learning and become compassionate leaders of tomorrow. With a focus on academic excellence, personal development and a strong sense of community, we provide the foundation for a lifetime of success.
International Studies in Action!
Year 2 have been learning about Japan and had lots of fun making and eating sushi. They wrapped sticky rice in thin slices of cucumber and carrots, then rolled them into traditional sushi shapes.
Meanwhile, Year 1 explored China through a food tasting experience. Many had tried noodles before, but few had used chopsticks. Some boys even gave excellent demonstrations on how to use them properly.
It’s been fantastic to see the children learning about different cultures through hands-on activities.

Over the past month, Ted created an excellent board game called “Tom Find the Item”, inspired by the story Tom’s Midnight Garden.
The instructions were easy to follow: land on a red space and pick up an unlucky card, land on a black space and pick up a lucky card. To win, players needed to find 16 items and return them to the house at the start of the board. All the items were connected to the story, adding a creative touch.
Pink, purple, green, and orange teams played the game and had great fun exploring it together.

Pupils have been busy in the art room creating these colourful paintings, inspired by poppies. They captured the flowers’ vibrant beauty and striking patterns beautifully.

It’s been a colourful week in the Art Room! Year 3 have been putting the finishing touches on their stunning kaleidoscope patterns.
Our Charity team were honoured to attend the National Harvest Service at Westminster Abbey.
One of the charities we support, City Harvest, kindly invited us to join the service. We sang hymns, offered thanks for the food we have, and listened to emotive readings and meaningful prayers, reminding us just how fortunate we are. A truly inspiring experience celebrating gratitude and community.
It was an unforgettable event, attended by The Queen and many other distinguished guests. A huge thank you to City Harvest for giving us this opportunity.

Pupils in Years 3 to 8 enjoyed the exciting finals of our annual Hunter Jones poetry recital competition last week.
Every student from Years 3 to 8 learned and performed a poem, and the standard of the finalists was truly impressive!
We were delighted to welcome a panel of talented Lower Sixth English students from Merchant Taylors’ School, who had the tough task of selecting our Lower School (Years 3–5) and Upper School (Years 6–8) winners. They did a fantastic job providing thoughtful feedback and recognising standout performances across all year groups.
Congratulations to all our finalists and winners. Your passion, confidence, and delivery made for a wonderful celebration of poetry and performance!
Year 2 Bring Their Reading to Life
Year 2 spent a morning in the outdoor classroom, imagining what the character in their class book, “The River” by Marc Martin, might have seen while sailing past a forest. Using all their senses, they collected ideas and inspiration that they’ll use in their writing next week.

Last week, our U11 footballers represented St John’s at the ISFA Football Tournament, giving a determined and impressive performance against tough opposition and challenging conditions.
Throughout the group stages, the boys showed fantastic teamwork and resilience, securing last-minute wins and high-scoring victories to top their group and advance directly to the quarterfinals. Highlights included a powerful long-range strike from Gabriel, earning him Man of the Match for his outstanding contribution.
In the quarterfinals, we faced a strong, well-organised York House side, who went on to reach the Final. A huge well done to all players for their effort, sportsmanship, and pride in representing St John’s. The team should be proud of their performance and the way they supported each other throughout the tournament.

Launching Our School Charity: Therapy Dogs International
We kicked off this year’s charity with a special assembly led by our Charity and Lincoln Prefects, and were thrilled to welcome Juliette Brown and Marley from Therapy Dogs International.
Juliette shared the incredible work Marley does to support people in hospitals – a mission that began after her own daughter’s hospital experience. After the assembly, Marley and Juliette toured Pre-Prep, giving the boys a chance to meet Marley, enjoy some “dog therapy,” and experience the joy these amazing animals bring.
We’re excited to support Therapy Dogs International and the incredible work they do.
